Clay is a magical material – a combination of earth and water and possibilities. I “throw” most of my pots on the potter’s wheel, a process that requires playing with balance – being in control and pushing limits, having a plan and being spontaneous, crafting functional forms and creating pots that are fun and a little bit funky.  I’m intrigued with texture and enjoy altering my pots by adding or removing clay to create textural elements.  In recent months I’ve been doing more hand-building to create large and small pottery leaves, each reflecting an actual leaf from my garden.

I was enamored by the process of wheel throwing when I took a pottery class in high school eons ago.  In the last few years I’ve become reacquainted with this art form and continue to learn about the art and science of making pottery. Much of my learning takes place by doing – and by learning what not to do.

I enjoy the hand-in-hand process of making the pots and hope you’ll find these clay creations a little bit magical in your hands, too.
